She is also working with an occupational and vision therapist to learn how to navigate life now with this vision loss. There is a chance Oaklei will regain all or 25% of the vision that she has lost. By 3 months, the vision loss that she still has will be pretty close to what she will have permanently. If her vision loss remains at 50%, she will most likely need a guide dog to help her navigate through unfamiliar and busy areas. There is a small chance that the tumor can return so Oaklei must continue to have repeat MRIs every few months for the first year and then yearly after that.

The Home Garden & Lifestyle Show is hosted by The Union newspaper, bringing together local home improvement professionals of all kinds, for 36 years. She is always thinking of others and loves to help everyone. She has been so brave through all of this and is fighting so hard to go back to things she loves. The funds raised will be used for her medical care, travel to Primary Children’s Hospital and possibly a service animal.

California House Plans, Floor Plans, Designs & Blueprints

This client is an admirer of the work of Wallace Neff, and requested that I develop ideas to upgrade their home with Old World Spanish style detailing, and a new 2-story addition. I am an admirer of his artistic eye and how he incorporated many of these authentic Spanish materials and architectural details. I also eventually helped them develop a landscape design for the U-shaped entry courtyard, and the immediate areas adjacent to the motorcourt. I am available to help you create an original design that will stand the test of time. These images are examples of the type and mix of photos I intermix within my full color coffee table book.

As the name suggests, this type of house came about during the days when New Mexico was just a U.S. territory. It features influences from Eastern U.S. architecture of the time, including double-hung windows and brickwork. Though the different types of dwellings are similar in design, they all boast key differences that may make certain Spanish style homes a better choice for some than others. Unlike Spanish style homes, most Mediterranean houses have an open floor plan. While many Spanish style homes have just a single floor, Mediterranean homes are likely to have a second.

Represented by Eric Haskell, the beautifully updated, private home by Reath Design showcases a bright chef’s kitchen with custom tile work, light-filled living room, five bedrooms, an office or fitness space and more. The voluminous second-story master, complete with a spacious balcony and custom, hand-cut Moroccan tile bathroom, overlooks a spectacular backyard oasis, replete with an ozone swimming pool and tennis court. MonsterHousePlans.com has hundreds of house plans available in our massive inventory. We're adding new ones all the time and making it easy to find the exact plan that you're looking for with our advanced search feature.

Those who prefer low-maintenance, unique exteriors are prime candidates for these home plans. No matter the style, the plans come with numerous bedrooms, open living spaces and outdoor gathering areas for the entire family to enjoy. Spanish house plans come in a variety of styles and are popular in the southwestern U.S. The homes can be seen throughout California, Nevada and Arizona, including as far east as Florida. Hacienda, pueblo, mission and craftsman are a few common styles and have similar features such as low-pitched roofs and stucco exteriors. This 4500 SF Capistrano Beach home was designed for an in-fill lot and the owners collection of southwest art.

The transformation continues outside with gorgeous landscaping, a refinished pool and beautifully reimagined casita. Sadly, one of the owners died while the project was ready to go under construction and the project was sold. Although the house was finished, some of the contemporary architectural features were eliminated or traditionalized. I appreciate authentic Spanish architecture, and the special Montecito and Santa Barbara homes that were uniquely designed and built back in the 1920s and 30s. One of the most striking features found in many Spanish style homes today is the exposed wooden beams known as vigas.

They speak to a simpler time, with a design resembling ancient wattle and daub structures and a layout reminiscent of the Colonial era. Most concrete block homes have 2 x 4 or 2 x 6 exterior walls on the 2nd story. Steve and his Developer client commissioned me to do this perspective rendering and the drought tolerant landscape design for presentations to surrounding neighbors, as well as the SB Architectural Board of Review. I also designed an outdoor dining area with new pizza oven on the upper patio area. This design keeps the west side of the house fairly simple with upgrades, and then bulk of the changes to the East, where a 2 story addition is proposed.

The ends of these beams are exposed along the edge of the roof, creating a unique, eye-catching pattern. Instead of sticking to straight, simple walls, many Spanish style homes incorporate curves into their design. It’s not uncommon to see a house boasting an asymmetrical tower or turret along the side. While traditional Spanish style homes had walls made of adobe or mudbrick, nowadays, most are made of cheaper, lighter, and more durable stucco.

Situated along upper State Street, Estancia is a collection of single-story residences and multi-story townhomes featuring the signature Spanish architecture on the exterior and contemporary, sleek design on the inside. Ten-foot ceilings soar above bright, open-plan living spaces, where expansive windows draw the outdoors in. Clean lines are enriched with highly curated modern details, including intricate tilework, quartz countertops, and polished chrome fixtures.

Traditional Spanish interiors were refreshed to give the home a modern, European sensibility; terra-cotta tiles were replaced with wide-plank French oak floors and windows were added to take advantage of the home’s southern exposure. The interiors flow seamlessly to a gorgeous backyard studded with mature olive trees and complete with a fire pit, grassy lawn, two lounge areas and a swimming pool. They have several distinctive design features that make them stand out from the surrounding architecture, including both exterior and interior spaces.

One of the only new construction homes in Hancock Park, this spectacular estate, represented by Jon Grauman, blends a classic Spanish exterior with sophisticated, contemporary interiors envisioned for today’s discerning buyer. An incredible chef’s kitchen is lined with Fleetwood walls of glass that open to a grassy backyard, complete with an infinity-edge pool, built-in bbq and golf course views. Located in prime Brentwood Park, this private, gated Spanish estate was custom built in 2010. Back when they were made of heavyweight adobe, wood beams were used to add extra support around the roof. They’re modeled after the houses of poor Spanish colonists as opposed to wealthy settlers. They often feature little ornamentation, instead opting for a smooth, stark facade. Inspired by the Spanish missions of the 17th and 18th centuries, this style has some of its roots in the oldest Spanish architecture. These homes often somewhat resemble a monastery, with a smooth, flat facade, arched walkways, and even bell towers. Spanish style homes have a unique charm that attracts people from all walks of life.

The History of Spanish Style Homes

Monterey Revival homes are popular in California, especially in Southern regions. They’re often larger than typical Spanish style homes, with many boasting two floors. This helps to benefit the local community, especially local artisans and craft workers. Since construction material is readily available locally, Spanish style homes can also be easier and cheaper to repair. To this day, many homes in the Southwest of the United States are fashioned in the Spanish colonial style.

Why are Spanish Style Homes Gaining Popularity?

Spanish style homes are a familiar sight in warm, coastal regions of the Southwest. They offer a rustic yet elegant look reminiscent of the early Colonial dwellings built by the first Spanish settlers. As Spanish style homes continue to gain popularity in the real estate market, more and more people are wondering just what sets Spanish style homes apart from the rest. Surprising details elevate this estate to the extraordinary, including a secret speakeasy bar hidden behind a wood-paneled wall—revealed with the press of a button.

The exterior styling reflects America’s Southwestern, Central American, and Andalusian influences. Crisp stucco finishes, terra cotta barrel tile roofing, courtyards, wrought iron balusters, and arched loggias add to the ambience of our Spanish style house plans. The majority of these Spanish Colonial home plans have open, airy and casual layouts that complement the relaxed living that is desired in such Spanish Colonial styled homes. We make it a point to maximize any view that your site might have with strategically-placed windows that let in plenty of light. The floor plan is an upside down plan so the upper living areas would have maximum views of the ocean between the adjacent houses and trees. The front entry foyer is placed halfway between the two floors for easy access and spaciaous circulation between the floors and without a long stair case from the front private courtyard. Set discreetly behind 25-foot tall hedges and commanding gates, this modern Spanish estate in Encino, represented by Craig Knizek, James Hirsch and Denise Snanoudj, has been beautifully reimagined. Doors open to a soaring foyer and statement-making staircase that lead to warm and elegant interiors, including a high-end kitchen, media room, theatre, and secondary kitchen perfect for large-scale entertaining. Spanish floor plans became a popular architectural choice in the early 1920s in California. You can find these types of homes throughout the Hollywood Hills and up and down the coastline.

Spanish Style House Plans

Colonists from Spain first brought their architectural style with them across the ocean when they began to emigrate to the U.S. in search of wealth. Catholic missions of the time also helped to create modern Spanish style homes. Although we are primarily known for designing and working with modern style homes, we do have a strong love of California Spanish Style architecture. This is probably because of the strong simple passive designed building elements that inspire us to incorporate those elements in our modern home designs. Here are some California Spanish Style inspired homes we have remodeled or restored.
