Costa Maya Cruise Port Guide Puerto Costa Maya

Children can have fun at pint-sized slides and mini pools at the Monkey’s Island kids’ area. Hidden back in the small town near the port is a highly rated pizza joint — Pizza Papi. Described as “Bob Marley meets Day of the Dead,” the vibe is unique and the pizza looks amazing.

Boat tours

There are even a number of shipwrecks to explore, including a Dutch galleon where you can still see its cannons on the seafloor. Dive shops in Mahahual will offer tours, and some cruise lines might also have excursions. And while the area isn’t as developed as some older cruise ports, it still offers plenty for passengers to do. Whether you want to explore ancient ruins, do some world-class scuba diving, or simply find a place to eat and drink to your heart’s content, there’s something for you. From the exploration of ancient Mayan ruins at Chacchoben to the tours of the Bacalar Lagoon, Costa Maya offers various activities and attractions to all visiting tourists.

Visit Mahahual Malecon (Downtown)

These restaurants offer an easy way to relax during your port stop, even though your memories might be a little hazy after spending all day here. Its location right near Cozumel (the most visited cruise port stop in the area) means that Costa Maya can be added into an itinerary without having to go far out of the way. Chances are good that if you are headed on a cruise that travels the western Caribbean, you’ll make a stop in Costa Maya.

Where to Find Free Wifi at Cruise Port?

The heart of this tranquility is Mahahual, a small village enveloped by lush jungle. This fishing village, known for its laid-back vibe and picturesque beaches, provides a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of typical tourist areas. Designed for cruise visitors, Costa Maya’s port is a gateway to exploring natural beauty and Mayan ruins, ensuring a memorable experience. Costa Maya is a popular cruise port and tourist destination located on the Caribbean coast of Mexico, in the state of Quintana Roo.

Be sure to bring your swimsuit, sunscreen, towels, and anything else you’ll need for the day. Once you purchase your admission, you’ll be given instructions for finding the transportation. You’ll need to make your way out of the port to a small location outside.

Maya Chan Beach

The Power Snorkel tour takes place in the crystal-clear waters of Costa Maya and is perfect for those who want to explore further than traditional snorkeling. If you haven’t heard of snuba, it’s a combination of Scuba Diving and Snorkeling. You can explore the depths of the sea while still getting to experience the beauty of Costa Maya’s underwater world. The beach’s staff works diligently to ensure that the seagrass is cleared from the shoreline, thus allowing you to take full advantage of the beach. You have to book a reservation at Maya Chan similar to a shore excursion and they will reserve a cabana for you. We visited Altun Ha in Belize and it was a wonderful experience.

The cruise port is known for it’s amenities and activities designed specifically for cruise passengers. The Costa Maya cruise port was specifically built to cater to cruise passengers, providing many activities and attractions both in and around the cruise terminal. Although a few years ago this port was lesser known than popular Cozumel, Costa Maya is now frequented by several cruise lines.

Best Costa Maya Beaches Near the Cruise Port

The best part is you don’t get wet, making it perfect for small kids or those with mobility issues. Costa Maya used to be an open-air trailer pulled behind a pickup truck that would bring you into the main town (Mahahual) for a couple of bucks. As of our last visit however, that seems to be gone and now you can either walk (around 45 minutes) or take a taxi (5 minutes). Rides cost only $3-4 per person, and it’s well worth it than the somewhat confusing walk in the heat and humidity. Taxis are everywhere both in port and in Mahahual, so you’ll have no trouble finding one. One such place is Jaime’s at the Blue Reef and another is the YAYA Beach Club.

In conclusion, there is something for everyone to do and enjoy at a Costa Maya Cruise. From exploring the ancient Mayan ruins to relaxing on the beach, Costa Maya has something for everyone. For the ultimate in luxury, consider booking a catamaran tour. Getting out on the water is a wonderful way to enjoy a day in Costa Maya.

Because of the short duration of this experience, you can also combine it with some other activities at the port. When the Royal Caribbean Odyssey of the Seas cruise we were planning to take over February break switched ports of call due to some port closures, I didn’t mind. Although I did love the original ports, I was excited to check out a new-to-us port of call, Costa Maya.

There, you can meet your guide who will arrange your transportation in small groups. Standard cruise port shops include Diamonds International, Del Sol, and Crown of Light, among others. Snorkeling is one of the highlights of this port in the West Caribbean itineraries. The coast of Mexico is famous for snorkeling and diving, and Costa Maya is one of the best places to engage in these activities. The Nearby Waterpark Is ClosedFrom the ship you’ll be able to look inland and see a recreated Mayan temple standing high above the trees.

One of the best ways to tour Mahahual is a guided electric bike tour. Stop at one of the area’s best restaurants or bars for lunch. For more options, you’ll want to go into town where you’ll find the following ideas. Notably, there is not a spot to swim in the ocean within the Costa Maya port. If all this sounds like it was designed to keep you entertained without ever leaving, then you’d be right.

The Dolphin Discovery excursion takes place right at the port and can be booked on the ship. Again, this is something I would book in advance if you are interested. The port of Costa Maya is located in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, on the Yucatan peninsula.

Its location near already popular ports mean that the cruise lines can add the stop to their itineraries without adding much time or fuel expense to the trip. The pier at Costa Maya has berths for up to four large cruise ships. The locals are generally friendly; although some sellers can be pushy.

Costa Maya has a little something for everyone, whether you are looking for adventure or relaxation, you can find it in Costa Maya. The closest beach to Costa Maya Port is Mahahual, and because of this, it becomes quite crowded. While it is beautiful, if you are looking for a peaceful beach, this may not be the best option for you.
